Longfield Community Hospice has launched its annual Light up a Life appeal, giving the people of Gloucestershire the chance to remember and celebrate someone special and attend an uplifting celebration evening in the run-up to Christmas.
As part of the appeal, Longfield is organising two celebration services, featuring festive carols, readings and the chance for people to light a candle in memory of a loved one. There are two events to choose from: Thursday, December 1st at Gloucester Cathedral and Monday, December 12th at Minchinhampton Parish Church.
This year, Carol will be supporting the appeal in memory of her Mum Margaret, who was cared for in her final weeks by Longfield’s Hospice at Home team: “After mum’s cancer diagnosis, she started to fade. Mum wanted to come home.
“When Longfield took over mum’s care, your team were here for me, not just Mum, which was beautiful. The relief made me cry. Having people who are experts in the dying process come and hold your hand to guide you through it… well, it’s a gift.
“I’m supporting Light up a Life in memory of my wonderful mum. Please, if you can, make a donation to Longfield today in memory of someone you love.”
Longfield’s Head of Fundraising and Marketing, Louise Cook, said: “Christmas is such a special time, but it can also be a difficult time if someone you love has died. Light up a Life is a celebration dedicated to those who hold a special place in our hearts – it’s the perfect way to remember your loved ones and help keep their memory alive.”
To donate or to book your place at one of the celebration evenings, visit longfield.org.uk/light-up-a-life or call the fundraising team on 01453 886868. The events are free to attend, but booking is essential. Please arrive at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
