Making a splash: Dale Vince offers to dive in to help save Stratford Park outdoor pool

Dale Vince has offered to splash the cash to help save Stroud’s much-loved outdoor pool.

The offer comes after fears the lido would remain closed this summer following a February risk assessment which uncovered serious structural issues, including a cracked foundation and extensive corrosion within pipework and the pool tank.

Campaigners from the Save Stroud Lido – Outdoor Pool have continued to push for a solution that would allow the facility to reopen for at least part of the summer season.

In its latest update, Stroud District Council said essential works are now expected to be completed by 22 July, paving the way for a shortened six-week season at Stratford Park Lido.

Mr Vince told the BBC he would be willing to contribute financially if additional support was needed.

“If the council didn’t have all of that money, I’d be interested to help, but I haven’t been asked,” said the Ecotricity and Forest Green owner.

He added: “The campaigners say it can be done for £100,000 in time for this summer, which I think is the most important thing.”

Council reports have outlined four potential long-term options for the site, ranging from permanent closure to a £10 million redevelopment featuring wellness facilities, hydrotherapy areas, heat rooms, ice baths, relaxation spaces and a splash pad.

The future of the historic lido remains under discussion, with residents, swimmers and local groups continuing to campaign for its preservation as a valued community asset.

Stroud Times has contacted Stroud District Council for comment.
