Man arrested following rape of woman in Woodchester

A man in his 50s has been arrested after police responded to a report that he had raped a woman in a hotel room in Woodchester.

Officers were called to the hotel at around midday today (Thursday 13 October) by a distressed woman who had been assaulted and raped.

The man had left the hotel before police arrived, and following a search of the area with support from the police helicopter, a 55-year-old man, from Dursley, was arrested on suspicion of rape. He remains in police custody.

The woman is now receiving specialist support.

Officers remain at the scene while enquiries continue.

Investigating officers would like anyone with information who hasn’t already spoken to police to come forward.
