Mark Cooper set to become new Barrow manager as he makes swift return to dugout after Forest Green sacking

Mark Cooper is set to become the new manager of Barrow.

The Bluebirds identified the ex-Forest Green and Swindon Town boss as their number one target to replace caretaker manager Rob Kelly.

Cooper’s dismissal at Rovers came after a run of six matches without a win and four consecutive defeats left them sixth in the table.

Cooper had led the club to promotion to the English Football League at the end of his first season with the club and to the League Two play-offs in their second season in the league.

Cooper is expected to add his former assistant manager Richard Dryden to his backroom staff at the Bluebirds.

Barrow secured League Two football for next season following their 2-0 win at Forest Green last month.
