Stroud teenager George Hellerstein, a lifelong basketball fan, has turned a simple problem into an exciting new business venture with the launch of his brand, HellerHoops.
George,13, who has played for the Gloucester Saxons for the past five years and even represented the club in an international tournament in Barcelona, found himself frustrated by the lack of colourful, stylish basketball shorts available in the UK. After asking his parents for a pair from the US—priced far higher than expected once imported—they encouraged him to consider designing his own instead.
A talented artist, George sat down with his sketchbook and began hand-drawing bold, vibrant designs inspired by the sport he loves. Working closely with a digital designer to bring his artwork to life, he created a line of eye-catching basketball shorts unlike anything found on the UK high street.

What began as a fun family idea soon turned into something much bigger. With support from his parents, including his dad—a local Gloucestershire business owner—George launched HellerHoops earlier this year. The brand now offers both unique basketball shorts and matching t-shirts, available for anyone to buy through the website.
George’s colourful creations have already become popular among his teammates and friends, and his family hopes that sharing his story will inspire other young people to explore their creativity and follow their ideas.

“It’s amazing to see George turn his love of basketball and art into something real,” his parents said. “We’re so proud of the work he’s put in. He truly designed everything himself—this is his vision.”
HellerHoops products can be purchased online at hellerhoops.com, and George continues to design new pieces between school, training, and games with the Saxons.
