New licensees of a much-loved Stroud pub have been announced.
Rhiannon Roberts and Owen Isserlis will take over at the Crown and Sceptre in Horns Road next week when landlord Rodda Thomas retires after 15 years at the venue, and spoke to Faye Hatcher about the changeover.
“For me, it’s a rollercoaster of emotions and, but I think we’ve got the right people and I’m confident the pub will carry on and in the usual vein, so I’m happy,” said Rodda.
“We’ve been coming here on and off since we moved to Nailsworth a few years ago – it’s a good pub and a nice element of the community. You can tell everyone loves it here and it’s a great asset for local people,” said Rhiannon.
The new owners say that it will be ‘business as usual’ and won’t be making sweeping changes at the pub: “We’re losing Rodda, but everyone else is staying on. There will be no big changes in the future,” Rhiannon explained.
“I’m really relieved,” added Rodda. “I’ve been here for more than 15 years and it’s my legacy, so I really wanted it to stay open – so many pubs close and I didn’t want that to happen here.”
