Milk is flowing again at Stroud Micro Dairy.
After a year off to make improvements to the business and farm, the delicious raw milk is flowing once again.
The dairy has adopted a revolutionary new seasonal model, and is now running Spring calving, with the cows having three months off from milk production each year. While this shift means there is no milk in the winter months, it is much kinder on the cows and is in keeping with the dairy’s mission of producing milk with the best possible welfare standards.
By aligning milk production with peak grass growth in Spring, the dairy can minimize environmental impact and maximize nutritional benefits for consumers. In this new model, SMD will offer dairy products on a subscription basis to locals signed up as Friends of the dairy, as well as offering ad hoc sales and selling from market stalls.
The dairy has also expanded its herd with the addition of five Dairy Shorthorn cross cows from Woefuldane Organic Dairy. Mandy, Tilly, Hedwig, Sonia, and Iris have seamlessly integrated into the farm, bringing their unique charm and contributing to the rich tapestry of the Stroud Micro Dairy family.
