Mission Impossible: Forest Green earn relegation lifeline with win at Crewe

Steve Cotterill will be handed the freedom of Nailsworth if he can save Forest Green from the drop.

Like the hit film starring Tom Cruise, the Rovers’ boss is working his very own Mission Impossible and a crucial 3-0 win at promotion-chasing Crewe Alexandra has offered his side a speck of League Two survival hope.

Jordon Garrick’s first half brace and a goal from Jamie Robson all inside the opening high-octane 28 minutes helped Rovers end a three-game losing sequence and offer Cotterill’s battlers a lifeline with five games to go.

Rovers remain at the foot of the table after Sutton’s 3-1 win at home to Swindon Town helped them out of the bottom two. Danny Cowley’s Colchester drop back into the relegation zone after being held to a 1-1 draw at Tranmere.

Rovers are two points behind Colchester on 36 points, who have two games in hand, and trail Sutton by three points with a game in hand over Steve Morison’s side.
