Supermarket giant Morrisons has confirmed the loss of 3,600 jobs following the closure of 17 stores last year, in a move it says is part of a wider strategy to streamline operations and refocus investment.
Along with hundreds of jobs, the supermarket shut two cafés and 100 other in-store services like 12 florists, four pharmacies and dozens and meat and fish counters.
Rami Baitiéh, Chief Executive of Morrisons, previously said: “The changes… are a necessary part of our plans to renew and reinvigorate Morrisons and enable us to focus our investment into the areas that customers really value and that can play a full part in our growth.”
It comes after a year of major losses in 2023, in which the shop slashed 8,800 roles due to increasing costs.
