As Christmas approaches, the simple act of ordering a turkey becomes its own little tradition.
Country Quality Meat in Nailsworth have reported record sales this year, but you still have time to place your order.
Owner Paul Dowdeswell told Stroud Times: “Deadline is Saturday, December 13. We also sell for Christmas gammon joints – smoked to order.
“Cockerels, geese and ducks. Our usual selection of beef, lamb and pork. Plus gluten free sausages and sausage meat and our dry cured range of bacon.”

Some people plan weeks ahead, placing their order with the local butcher for the biggest, juiciest bird they can find. Others wait until the last minute, joining the cheerful chaos of crowded markets and comparing sizes, prices, and whether this is finally the year to try a crown instead of a whole bird.
There’s a sense of ceremony in choosing the turkey—imagining it roasting slowly on Christmas morning, filling the house with that unmistakable holiday aroma. Whether it’s free-range, bronze, or the same reliable brand every year, the turkey becomes a promise of togetherness: the centrepiece of a table where family and friends will gather, laugh, argue lightly, and maybe sneak a bit of stuffing before it’s officially served.
Ordering a turkey isn’t just a chore. It’s a small moment that signals the season is truly here and that preparations are underway for a day filled with comfort, tradition, and plenty of leftovers – let Country Quality Meats make it a Merry Christmas for your family.
