A chance conversation between musician Tim Hughes and Mike Kelly, Mayor of Nailsworth has led to a show to raise money for Guide Dogs.
In this show, featuring slides and musical performance, Tim will talk about how acoustic blues music emerged, as a unique folk music of African Americans in the Southern States of the US.
Tim will perform a number of classic blues songs and then a few of his own blues and folk influenced songs. This will include his Five Valleys Trilogy, three songs inspired by the Five Valleys area around Stroud and featuring a slide show of many local scenes that will be familiar to locals of the Stroud area. The show is for a general audience and is designed to be entertaining for all ages.
Local songs include: Five Valleys’ Home; Water, Wool and Workers, about Ruskin Mill, and Tom Long’s Post, about the local highwayman after whom the signpost was named.
The show takes place on Saturday, June 10th in the Market House, Minchinhampton.
Tickets at £10 can be purchased from: timhughesblues.com/shows or the Market Store Minchinhampton (cash only). All profits to be donated to the Guide Dogs.
