New Cotswold Way trails launched on free app to boost tourism

Stroud District Council has launched three new walking trails along the iconic Cotswold Way which are available on the free Discover Stroud District app.

The new routes cover the stunning stretch of the Cotswold Way from Painswick to Wotton-under-Edge, broken into three manageable sections – Painswick to King’s Stanley; King’s Stanley to Dursley; and Dursley to Wotton-under-Edge which can be explored across multiple days. Each trail includes fun facts, local recommendations for food, drink and activities, and suggestions for places to stay in nearby towns.

The trails were developed by Stroud District Council in consultation with Cotswold National Landscape to help walkers get the most out of their journey along one of the UK’s most celebrated long-distance paths.

Cllr Chloe Turner, Leader of Stroud District Council said: “We’re incredibly lucky to have the Cotswold Way right on our doorstep. These new trails are a fantastic way to encourage residents and visitors alike to explore the area, support local businesses, and enjoy the natural beauty of our district.”

The Discover Stroud District app is free to download and already features a variety of themed walks including a Shakespeare trail, a movie location hunt, and town centre scavenger hunts. The addition of the Cotswold Way trails marks a new highlight showcasing the district’s most famous walking route.

The initiative supports the Council Plan’s objective to promote Stroud district as a sustainable tourism and visitor destination and is expected to bring economic benefits to local businesses by encouraging footfall in towns and villages along the route.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a weekend wanderer, the new trails offer a fresh way to experience the Cotswolds – with a little help from your smartphone.

The Discover Stroud District app is available for iPhone and Android devices:
