Marling School is delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Knight as its new substantive principal, a major milestone as the school prepares for its transfer from Cotswold Beacon Academy Trust (CBAT) to Lift Schools.
Mr Knight will take up his post on April 1. Following a rigorous national recruitment process, Mr Knight was selected from a highly competitive field of experienced headteachers and senior leaders. He brings extensive experience and a proven track record of impact in education, having worked for over 15 years with Oasis Community Learning, one of England’s largest academy trusts. Currently serving as a Regional Director overseeing secondary schools in the Bristol area, he has previously led high-performing schools in Bristol, London, and New Zealand.
A passionate advocate for selective education, Mr Knight is committed to the grammar school system both professionally and personally, having children in local grammar schools. He is eager to build on Marling School’s many strengths and to secure its position as one of Gloucestershire’s highest-performing grammar schools and a leading selective school nationally.
Marling School is currently led by Mr Duncan Cook, Chief Executive Officer of CBAT, who is serving as Acting Principal. Mr Cook will work closely with Mr Knight to ensure a smooth and carefully planned transition. Under his leadership, the school has continued to build on its record results from last summer, providing a strong foundation for further growth.

Mr Cook will continue as Acting Principal until Mr Knight assumes the role, working closely with staff to maintain continuity and stability. Lift Schools will provide additional school improvement support during this period, in partnership with CBAT, as Marling School prepares for its transfer later this academic year.
