Stroud-based motoring personality, Nick Ponting will step back into a racing car after a six-year absence, when he lines up on the grid at Silverstone on June 19th and 20th in the BRSCC Mazda Supercup.
The 30-year-old who holds the EV Land Speed Record with Ecotricity, began karting at the age of nine before progressing into professional motorsport across Europe.
Speaking about his return with Paddock Motorsport, Nick said: “It’s so good to be back. This should have happened last year but due to everything that’s going on in the world, the motorsport season was obviously affected and restrictions meant we couldn’t fulfil what we wanted to do.”
Ponting will be competing in arguably the most competitive single make series in the UK – BRSCC Mazda Supercup. The Championship visits some of the top circuits in the country and is a fan-favourite due to its nose-to-tail action throughout the field.
“At the moment, this is a one-off weekend but with the intention of getting as much mileage as possible under my belt, to build foundations for a full assault in 2022,” said Nick.
“Expectations are naturally high, but I’ve got to be realistic. I’ve been out of a racing for a long time and this championship attracts some of the best club racers in the country.”
Signing for Paddock Motorsport, run by Le Mans Winner and ex-IndyCar driver Martin Plowman, alongside British GT champion, Emmerdale star and Strictly Come Dancing winner Kelvin Fletcher, Nick can’t wait to get stuck in.
“I’m really excited to be joining Kelvin and Martin and to see where this takes us and hoping to be very much at the sharp end at Silverstone in June”.
