In Stroud, 255 young people are currently claiming unemployment benefits. That’s 255 young people with talent, ambition and huge potential, who simply need the right support and opportunities to move forward.
Labour’s Youth Guarantee is designed to change that. We’re making sure every young person gets the chance to earn or learn, with £820 million invested to support those not currently in work, education or training.
This will create 350,000 new training or workplace opportunities, alongside a Youth Guarantee Gateway that offers 900,000 young people on Universal Credit a dedicated work-support session, followed by four weeks of focused help.
Work coaches can guide young people into one of six tailored pathways — whether that’s a job, work experience, an apprenticeship, wider training, learning opportunities, or a workplace training programme with a guaranteed interview, developed alongside employers.
This is a genuine springboard for almost a million young people across the country: real routes to skills, confidence, and long-term employment. We’ve also made apprenticeship training costs 100% government-funded for small and medium-sized businesses – removing key financial barriers for smaller firms who want to bring young people into their teams.
We’re expanding Youth Hubs — the places where young people can get practical support, from CV writing and skills development to mental health, housing and careers advice — to more than 360 locations across Britain. These hubs will connect young people with local mentors, support networks and opportunities close to home.
This is about giving our young people the start they deserve, and making sure no one is left feeling stuck or without a path forward.
