The Ancient Ram Inn in Wotton-under-Edge held a Halloween Open Day on October 29th.
Owner Caroline Humphries holds open days throughout the year, allowing visitors to look around the former pub, believed to date back to the 11th century. It also claims to be ‘the most haunted building in England’ and attracts ghost hunters and paranormal investigators from around the world. The final open day of 2022 will take place on Saturday, December 3rd.
“My volunteers did a fantastic job in fancy dress, keeping the energy vibrant. We had lots of great feedback and the most visitors we’ve had all year,” said Caroline.
Visitors can book a night at the Ram, although the Covid pandemic had an impact: “Business is still not as good as it was before the pandemic,” explained Caroline.
“The customers I do have are bringing some much-needed custom back to Wotton-under-Edge. A few weeks ago Amy Helliwell, the Tourism Officer from Stroud District Council, kindly gave her support and added the Ancient Ram Inn website to their walking app – Discover Stroud Trails for Halloween.
“I’ve found a brilliant stonemason to start maintenance on the Old Ram Inn this year. I still want to fulfil my dream of opening a function room and restaurant in The Old Barn as soon as possible, so I’ve been working with Maverick TV (BAFTA winners) for a program on Channel 4 in the new year about antiques. I’ve met Ronnie Archer-Morgan from Antiques Roadshow a couple of times already.”
The Ram was recently featured on ITV’s This Morning when host Josie Gibson filmed a Halloween piece.
