Stroud Boxing Club successfully hosted its first-ever amateur boxing show at The Sub Rooms, marking the return of large-scale boxing events to the town for the first time in over 20 years.
The sell-out event featured 15 bouts across the evening, showcasing a wide range of talent from young boxers aged 11 through to experienced competitors. Participants travelled from across the region, with strong representation from local clubs including Gloucester, Cheltenham, Dursley, and Stroud.
Founded just two years ago by Tyrone McFarlane and his partner Daisy, Stroud Boxing Club is an England Boxing affiliated organisation that is based just outside Nailsworth and has filled a void that once saw a boxing club at Roxborough House in Stroud, more than 30 years ago.
The event delivered a professional and welcoming atmosphere, with a full-size amateur boxing ring installed in the ballroom at The Sub Rooms. Spectators filled both floor seating and the balcony, enjoying a relaxed environment with music, refreshments, and the opportunity to move around between bouts.
Safety and regulation were a key priority throughout the evening, with qualified officials and a ringside doctor present in accordance with England Boxing standards.
Local boxing coach Becky Finan highlighted the values at the heart of the sport, commenting: “It’s all about discipline, fitness, respect and bringing people together from all backgrounds.”
The evening also featured high-energy production elements, including a live announcer and music between bouts, contributing to an engaging and memorable experience for attendees.
With strong community support and a sold-out audience, the event represents a significant milestone for boxing in Stroud and signals a promising future for the sport in the area.
Adult tickets were priced at £22.50, offering spectators a full evening of competitive amateur boxing.
