The first summer holiday activities for children who live in the Stroud district will be available to book from mid-day on July 11.
There will be something for everyone, including sport, dance, drama, music, craft, and a whole host of other activities during four weeks of the school summer holiday 1 – 29 August 2022.
Stroud District Council will be co-ordinating the activities for children in the Stroud district, working closely with community groups, the voluntary sector, and other organisations.
Some of the activities will be reserved for children from reception to year 11 who receive benefits-related free school meals (the Holiday Activity Fund, or HAF).
The Holiday Activity Fund (HAF) programme is designed to make sure children and young people who receive free school meals are entertained, active, educated, safe and fed during the school summer holiday and is funded by the Department for Education.
Other activities will be available for all children and young people (Holiday Activities Programme, or HAP, formerly known as COMF) which is funded by grants.
Last year Stroud District Council partners delivered more than 2,700 summer holiday activities and almost 1,000 families in the district received a food box to help with lunchtime meals. Council staff produced more than 200 food bags which were delivered by Neighbourhood Wardens to those who don’t drive or were isolating.
Cllr Chris Brine, Stroud District Council Community Services and Licensing Committee chair said:
“We know that many parents find it difficult to keep children entertained during the summer holidays. Our popular holiday activities will help children in the Stroud district to have a healthy and happy holiday, whatever their background or life situation.”
Cllr Beki Aldam, vice chair added:
“The Holiday Activity programme supports the Council Plan to embed equality, diversity and inclusion across the district, with targeted support for those who experience the most disadvantage in our communities.”
