Peacocks is set for a surprise return to Stroud.

The beloved high street shopping brand is due to move into the site of the former Wilko store at the Five Valleys Shopping Centre and will share the unit with Sports Direct, who are due to move from Union Street at the end of March.

The clothing outlet was a staple of Stroud for a number of years until it closed down on March 11,2022.

A timeline of when customers can expect to see Peacocks reopen its doors is not yet known.

Tony Davey, chairman of Stroud Chamber of Trade, welcomed the news: “The loss of Peacocks, coupled with the collapse of some other national retailers, left a gap in the value clothing offering within the town.

“It’s widely rumoured Peacocks is to return soon, this time to the Five Valleys Shopping Centre. Its return will help rebalance the clothing offering in the town, alongside the Pep & Co offering from Poundland.”

Dransfield Properties, who run the Five Valleys Shopping Centre declined to comment on the impending retail moves.

Stroud’s branch of Peacocks was saved in 2021 after the troubled clothing chain was bought out by The Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group.
