Palestine Solidarity Campaign – Five Valleys Branch held a vigil at Stroud Sub Rooms on Friday afternoon.
Organised by Jagdish Patel, campaigners urged a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict and held a candlelit vigil on the steps of the Sub Rooms.
There were short speeches from Stroud District Together With Refugees, Stroud Against Racism, Cllr Robin Layfield, and a letter sent by Jews for Justice for Palestinians to the Prime Minister which was read by James Beecher.
Organiser Jagdish said: “A couple of us, as concerned citizens of Stroud, thought we must take some action and really demand a ceasefire in Gaza.
“The bombing of civilians has to stop and there has to be some road to peace so that at least we can start to unpick this mess that’s happening there.
“What we’re looking at is a potential genocide and we all want to avoid that, so a ceasefire would be the first rational step and we’re asking all the political parties, nationally and locally, to come together and call for a ceasefire.”
