In what is becoming something of an August Bank Holiday tradition, Stroud Red Band once again staged their Horns on Horns Road procession.

Band members, suitably attired in home-made horns of all shapes and sizes, assembled near Holy Trinity Church and paraded along a bustling Horns Road, filled with Stroud Yard Trail shoppers and sellers.

The procession ended at the Crown and Sceptre where they played in the marquee as part of the pub’s 2023 Outer Fringe Festival.

“This ceremony dates back thousands of years to when there was a Temple of Baccus on the site of the present Crown and Sceptre but for the Red Band it’s something that we do that’s a community event and fun rather than explicitly political,” said band co-ordinator, Jeremy Green.

“A lot of the things we do are political – this is one of the ones that isn’t.”
