There were goals galore as This Country All Stars faced Cirencester Town Veterans at a sun-drenched Corinium Stadium on Sunday.
It was organised by Paul Cooper, who played Martin Mucklowe in the BBC mockumentary This Country, which depicted life in a rural Cotswold community and showed the trials and tribulations facing cousins Kerry and Kurtan Mucklowe. The match raised money for the Children’s Football Alliance charity, a coalition of agencies and organisations that promote peace through football.
Early in the first half actors Charlie Cooper, Kurtan Mucklowe from This Country, and Matt Baynton, star of Ghosts and Horrible Histories, scored for the All Stars. However, the Veterans quickly reacted to level.
The good-natured game ended with the Veterans winning by a single goal, beating the All Stars 8-7.
