Stroud came alive with colour, music, and cultural heritage on Saturday as the town hosted Stroud Stands with Ukraine: Vyshyvanka Day Celebration — honouring Ukrainian identity, resilience, and community solidarity.
Organised in partnership with the Stroud Town Council and Stroud Stands with Ukraine, the event marked an international celebration of Vyshyvanka Day. The occasion formally recognises the traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt as a powerful symbol of national pride and cultural heritage.
The day began with a procession from St Laurence Church with a colourful parade featuring a huge Ukrainian flag, and participants dressed in traditional Ukrainian embroidered clothing, finishing in Bank Gardens where people gathered for a group photo, surrounding the Ukraine flag.
In the afternoon, St Laurence Church hosted a cultural concert featuring a rich programme of live Ukrainian music and performances.
The event brought together Ukrainian families and residents from across the community in a shared demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine. All funds raised during the event will go directly towards humanitarian aid and relief efforts supporting communities in Ukraine.
