A man has been arrested in connection with a suspected stabbing in Gloucester in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday.
The incident happened inside an address in Cromwell Street at around 1.40am and police are appealing for information.
Emergency services attended and a man, aged in his 40s, sustained several wounds and was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. He remains there for treatment.
A man in his 20s from the Forest of Dean was arrested nearby on suspicion of attempted murder and he remains in custody for questioning.
Police are in the early stages of an investigation, and at this time it is believed that two other men, who were described as being white, were involved in the attack.
Investigating officers are keen to hear from anyone who lives in the surrounding area who has CCTV or doorbell footage which shows any men in the area either before or after the incident.
Those with cameras are asked to review their footage between the times of 1.25am and 3.10am.
Forensic enquiries have been taking place at the scene overnight and today (Tuesday 24 December) there will be a visible police presence while searches continue to take place.

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a man sexually assaulted a teenage girl while on a bus in Gloucester.
It was reported that the teenager was sat at a bus stop on Clarence Street at around 9pm on Saturday 7 December when a man approached her and got on the same number 1 bus.
The unknown man sat next to the girl once on the bus, which was heading to Matson, and sexually assaulted her by rubbing her leg and kissing her hand without her consent.
He then commented on the 15-year-old girl’s physical appearance and said that she should go home with him.
Another passenger on the bus noticed what happened, asked the girl if she was ok and made sure she was able to get off the bus and to a place of safety.
Investigating officers are keen to hear from the woman who helped and anyone else who was on the bus who may have information which could assist them.
The man was described as being white, aged in his 60s, around 5ft 9ins tall, of a slim build, had a grey buzz cut and spoke in a Gloucester accent.
He was wearing gold framed glasses which had foggy lenses, a black coat and was carrying a brown bag which had chips inside.
CCTV enquiries are ongoing and police are now asking for anyone who witnessed what happened or who saw the man to make contact with them.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to a collision in Cheltenham last week which left a cyclist injured.
Police were called on Tuesday 17 December with a report of a collision between a cyclist and black Vauxhall Astra near the junction of London Roadand Keynsham Road.
This took place at around 5.30pm and the cyclist, a woman aged in her 40s, went to hospital for treatment to a shoulder injury which may require surgery.
The area was busy at the time due to rush hour traffic and investigating officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision but has not yet spoken to police or who has dashcam footage of what happened.
