Karl Nash has announced his departure from his boyhood club Dursley Town.

A legend of the grassroots football scene in the county, Nash has also served the likes of Gloucester City, Slimbridge, Brimscombe and Cribbs, but is now expected to take a break from the game after seven years at the helm of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One outfit, who he guided to third last season.

Nash, who first played for Dursley at the tender age of 10, told Stroud Times: “It has been a pleasure to manage my boyhood club.”

Nash enjoyed a productive spell under Sam Prior at Brimscombe before returning to his hometown club as player-manager.

Nash said: “I first signed a form for the club at the age of 10 and then went onto manager the club – I’m actually amazed I stuck it out this long.”

Nash insists the club are in rude health as they prepare for the new season, he added: “I can remember my first training session I had 14 people at training across the whole club, but now we have nine teams in total.

“It’s time to hand the baton over to someone new with fresh ideas to try and get them over the line.”

Camaraderie has always being key during Nash’s long stint: “We stuck at it, got the right people involved, serious team mates, people playing with smiles on their faces and there is no better community than this.”
