Gavin Pond, Co-founder of Practical Intelligence, joined Dr Simon Opher MP at 10 Downing Street for a special event promoting men’s health and wellbeing.
For 16 years, the Nailsworth-based organisation has led the way in fostering creativity, connection, and community through craft, music, and collaborative workshops. From Men’s Shed initiatives to Pi-Guitars and social events, Practical Intelligence provides safe, inclusive spaces where men can build confidence, friendships, and skills.
Speaking ahead of the event, Gavin Pond said: “It’s a real honour to be invited to Downing Street and to represent the men in our community who have found purpose and connection through making and creativity. Men’s health is about more than physical wellbeing — it’s about belonging, meaning, and shared experience.”
Dr Opher, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Creative Health, added: “Through their partnerships and creative programmes, Practical Intelligence continues to inspire and support men and women from all walks of life. They prove that craft, music, and community are powerful tools for change.”
With nearly 9 million people in England currently prescribed antidepressants, Practical Intelligence demonstrates how creative, community-based interventions can complement traditional treatment, offering profound mental health benefits through connection, engagement, and creativity.
