Allan Steele has lauded the credentials of Forest Green chairman Dale Vince and boss Duncan Ferguson after being appointed the club’s new director of football.
Replacing Stevie Grieve, Steele joins Rovers from Premier League Brentford after nine years at the west London outfit, joining in 2014 as Education and Welfare Manager & Academy Coach. He has been the Assistant Coach of Brentford B since 2016, before also taking on the role of Technical Lead at the B Team in 2019.
Steele’s footballing journey has taken him all over the globe, boasting coaching badges in the USA, Spain and Ireland.
Upon his arrival at The Bolt New Lawn, Steele said: “I’m delighted to join FGR. I love the vision of the club, its values, identity and culture.
“This is an amazing opportunity and it’s a project I’m hugely excited to be a part of.
“It’s a chance for a fresh start and everybody at the club has been so warm and welcoming – they’ve really looked after me. I want to work as hard as I can for everyone associated with the club.
“I had a long period of time speaking with Dale and I was really inspired and intrigued by what he had to say. I’m hugely impressed by his values, his personality and what he’s done with the club over a short period of time.
“Duncan (Ferguson) is an amazing and inspiring character and somebody who I immediately got on with. I’m looking forward to having a great relationship with him and the rest of the staff as we aim to take the club forward.
“Now I can’t wait to get stuck in as we prepare for an exciting season.”
Club Chairman, Dale Vince, said: “We’re excited to welcome Allan to the FGR team. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience which will be key in our next steps.
“He has been at Brentford during their rapid rise from League One to an established Premier League side.
“We’re grateful to Brentford for their co-operation in the process.”
