Hannah Patrick said yes to boyfriend John Sowden, who popped the question after she crossed the finish line of the Stroud Half Marathon this weekend.
After running 13.1 miles on Sunday morning in her first half marathon and clocking an impressive two hours and two minutes, Hannah, 36, was shocked to find her boyfriend, John, 40, down on one knee, ready to propose to her.
Hannah, who works for a cleaning company, explained: “John always said if I ever did a half marathon he would propose, so it was always a possibility, but I didn’t expect he would actually really do it or know he had planned it with his friends and even our son Stanley, 8, knew and managed to keep it a secret.”
John, who works for Muller, had completed the race in a brisk one hour and 32 minutes and nervously waited for his partner of 11 years to cross the line.
Hannah added: “John didn’t carry the ring on the race, but had it waiting safely in his backpack – he said he felt anxious before he proposed and was happy I said yes.”
