Marling School is delighted to announce its best-ever set of GCSE results, as Year 11 students celebrate an exceptional year of academic success.
With almost half of all grades awarded at the very highest levels (Grades 9–8), the results highlight the hard work and dedication of students, the invaluable support of families, and the high standards of teaching and care that define the Marling experience.

This year’s results include:
- 47% of all grades at the very highest level (Grades 9–8)
- 68% of grades at 9–7 (equivalent to A*/A)
- 86% of grades at 9–6 (equivalent to A–B)
Alongside these impressive statistics, there are many individual stories of success:
- Will Layng-Dale achieved 4 Grade 9s and 5 Grade 8s. He will be studying Biology, English Literature, Geography and Core Mathematics in Sixth Form. Will said: “I’m absolutely buzzing! I want to say thank you to all of my teachers and I can’t wait for 6th Form in a few weeks.”
- Matthew McMahon gained 7 Grade 9s and 2 Grade 8s. He said: “I’m so happy! I’m really looking forward to studying History, Politics, Spanish, EPQ and Classical Civilisation.”
- A proud parent, Mrs Duxbury, commented on her son Jake’s results: “He’s worked really hard and we’re so pleased for him. Thanks so much to all the staff at Marling.”
Vice Principal Mr Andrew MacDonald said: “We’re all incredibly proud of students at all levels who have worked so hard to produce what is comfortably the best set of GCSE results that Marling has ever had. Their achievements are thoroughly deserved. Our thanks go to all our staff, who have provided unwavering support and significant expertise to support the students through their GCSE journey, as well as to parents for all their support over the last five years.”
CEO and Principal Mr Duncan Cook added: “These exceptional results continue Marling’s proud tradition of academic excellence. What makes this year particularly special is the resilience and dedication of our fantastic students, who began their journey with us during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. To come through such an unprecedented time and achieve our best-ever GCSE results is a remarkable achievement and testament to their commitment and the incredible support of our staff and families. We couldn’t be prouder of them all.”
Looking ahead, the majority of Marling students will continue their studies at Marling Sixth Form, alongside up to 100 new joiners from schools across Gloucestershire and beyond. Entry requirements are 38 points across 6 GCSEs, including a minimum of Grade 5 in Maths and English.
