Shortwood turned in a five-start performance to crush Tytherington Rocks 5-1 at Meadowbank, writes Jim Cuneen.
Wood followed up their win at Tuffley with another impressive win – this time against Western League opponents Tytherington Rocks. All the signs are positive for the Wood. Their pattern of play, their fitness levels and their obvious enjoyment of their football all points to exciting times at the Wood.
It was goalless at half-time but Wood could, and possibly should, have been three goals to the good by half-time. Luke Soule had three good chances and Ben Tunnicliffe had a header ruled out for offside.
Wood were rampant in the second half. Jake Rhodes headed narrowly over before Tauriq Soloman sent in a great cross for Rhodes to head home after 52 minutes. The lead lasted bearly a minute as a rare piece of sloppy defending allowed Rocks to score from close range.
With 66 minutes gone Fin Byrnes lifted a pin point free-kick on to Rhodes head to head home again. Wood created other chances before Max Harper-Emerson dribbled past three defenders to score a third and then repeated the move to shoot across and Keegan Bowes to apply the finishing touch.
In the last minute, Lennon Lewis raced through from the half way line, held off his defender and blasted an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
Saturday, Wood are at home to Wootton Bassett, with a noon kick-off.
