Residents of Brimscombe and Thrupp took part in their Remembrance service on Sunday morning, joining thousands of other towns, cities and villages that fell silent at 11am to honour fallen military personnel.
Cllr Tim Harris, Chair of Brimscombe and Thrupp Parish Council, told Stroud Times: “This Remembrance Sunday morning, members of our community gathered as we have for many years at the War Memorial for an Act of Remembrance led for us by the Reverend Steve Woodcock.

“We came together in a simple but heartfelt act to remember those who have given their lives in the service of their country, and to give recognition for their sacrifice.”

The Brimscombe and Thrupp Parish Council community wreath was laid at the war memorial. It was originally made and co-ordinated in 2021 by Emma Sutton, with the help of Pam Wise, Gisela Blee and Sarah Dalby, who all made poppies.

The wreath is refurbished each year, with new poppies added. The wreath includes all four poppy colours: red, white, black and purple, and the text on the wreath reads: ‘Brimscombe and Thrupp Parish Council: Made with respect by the Brimscombe and Thrupp Community’.

Brimscombe War Memorial, located opposite Brimscombe Corner, was unveiled in October 1922 to commemorate members of Brimscombe and Thrupp Parish who served in the First World War. The memorial was later updated with a tribute to those who served in the Second World War.
