Renishaw introduces advanced absolute encoder system

MOST READ

Renishaw, a global leader in engineering technologies, has introduced its absolute multi-degree-of-freedom (multi-DoF) optical encoder system.

The system combines one or more RXMA30 1.5D scales with Renishaw’s market-proven RESOLUTE™ absolute encoder readheads, offering precise position measurement in up to six degrees of freedom (6DoF). This makes it ideal for high-performance motion systems where accuracy, speed, and repeatability are critical.

The RXMA30 scale is engineered for highly repeatable metrology, even under demanding thermal and dynamic conditions. Its dedicated, separate scale tracks allow direct measurement of motion in the X and Y axes without complex signal processing. Absolute encoder technology eliminates the need for homing routines, particularly on the Y axis, where motion control can be limited.

Renishaw’s solution enables machine builders to detect and compensate for unavoidable errors, including linear guideway straightness, small translational deviations, and rotational misalignments. By supporting in-process error compensation, the multi-DoF encoder enhances process capability and improves component yields.

The system also streamlines overall architecture while maintaining compatibility with a wide range of serial interfaces and motion control platforms. Its versatile design allows engineers to tailor scale and readhead configurations to meet specific application requirements.
