Forest Green boss Robbie Savage has dropped a tantalizing hint that a former loan star could be making a sensational return to the club.
Speaking ahead of the club’s clash with Boston United at the New Lawn on Tuesday, Savage was asked by Stroud Times whether he planned to add further reinforcements to his evolving squad.
Without mentioning the player directly, Savage strongly suggested he would like to re-sign Harry Whitwell from West Bromwich Albion.
Savage said: “There’s one player we’d love to bring back and I think we all know who that is. We’d love to bring him back if it’s feasible and possible. We’re in communication. Who knows what will happen.

“But I think if there was going to be one player, the player we all know, we’d love to bring back. If it happens, brilliant. If it doesn’t, you know, it doesn’t. But I think that’s one on our radar because we’ve seen players go back to clubs this season who have been a successful loan and have kicked on again.
“We need momentum going into the play-offs if we get in the play -offs, which I think we should. But yeah, it’d be nice to bring one more in, but again, that’ll go viral that we’ve got one million, four hundred forty-eight players in the football club.”
When asked if the return of the unnamed player was more of a hope than reality, Savage responded: “That player’s not been in the squad on the weekend. So again, I’ve rung the football club to see if there’s a possibility and we’ll wait to hear back.”
When Stroud Times asked Savage whether Rovers’ social media player announcement ‘windmill’ would be turning this week, he replied with a smile: “If it goes round, you’ll know who it will be.”
