Sir William Romney’s School is pleased to announce the positive results of its recent Ofsted inspection, which reaffirms the school’s continued status as a “good” school.
The inspection report highlights the Tetbury school’s ongoing commitment to upholding the high standards identified in its previous review, as well as its effective efforts to ensure sustained progress.
The report praises the school’s core ethos of “striving for excellence together” and commends its positive impact on academic achievement, student well-being, and conduct. Ofsted acknowledges the school’s high expectations and the supportive, nurturing environment in which students thrive.
Headteacher Will Ruscoe expressed his gratitude to the entire school community, stating: “This recognition is a direct result of the dedication, hard work, and collaboration of our students, staff, parents, The Athelstan Trust, and the wider community. While we are incredibly proud of this acknowledgment from Ofsted, we remain committed to continuing our journey toward becoming a beacon of excellence, not just in Gloucestershire, but beyond.”
Key Findings from the Ofsted Report:
- High Expectations: Students demonstrate a strong readiness for learning, benefiting from well-structured routines and an effective curriculum that supports their academic progress.
- Community Focus: The school’s commitment to student well-being is evident through the positive relationships within the school community. Ofsted’s parent survey revealed that 93% of parents would recommend the school to others.
- Broad Curriculum: The school’s curriculum ensures students build upon prior knowledge and prepares them for future academic and career success. The increasing uptake of English Baccalaureate (EBacc) subjects is a testament to the school’s rising ambition.
- Support for SEND Students: The newly established ‘SEN Hub’ and targeted interventions are tailored to meet the specific needs of students with special educational needs and/or disabilities, ensuring they are well supported in their learning journey.
- Personal Development: The school’s comprehensive careers program, including initiatives like ‘Futures Days,’ equips students with valuable skills and experiences, preparing them for a range of future pathways and careers.
- Collaboration with The Athelstan Trust and Governance: The inspection report highlights the close collaboration between Sir William Romney’s School and The Athelstan Trust, which has helped manage staff workload, support school improvement priorities, and sustain a focus on student outcomes.
