Stroud District Council leader Doina Cornell has blasted the Prime Minister over the latest Downing Street garden party claims.
A bombshell email from one of the Prime Minister’s top officials was released yesterday, inviting more than 100 Downing Street staff to a ‘bring your own booze’ drinks party in the Number 10 garden during the first coronavirus lockdown.
Cllr Doina Cornell said: “149 people across the Stroud district died from Coronavirus in 2020.
“We now know that at the same time Boris Johnson, his wife and team enjoyed lockdown parties at Number 10 as countless more lost special moments – missed funerals, weddings and crucial life events.
“Now it is clear that while we suffered – while we all made huge sacrifices to follow the rules – Boris Johnson and his team were drinking and laughing away. The Prime Minister has been caught red-handed. Think back to what you were doing in May 2020 – what you and your loved ones missed, what you sacrificed, what you lost. It is absolutely sickening.
“So today I am calling on MPs Siobhan Baillie and Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown to join me in condemning this disgusting behaviour, in demanding a full and honest account of what happened – today – and to call for an apology to every single one of us in Stroud who has suffered over these last two years.”
Mr Johnson will be forced to face the allegations head-on this afternoon as he attends Prime Minister’s Questions at midday.
