Shortwood started the brighter, Jack Gardner testing Dan Brabham early on, but it was the visitors who struck first. Harley Hudd’s clever ball released ex-Wood man Josh Beadle, who capitalised on hesitation from Joe Wright to loft a fine finish into the far corner.

That goal sparked a dominant Stonehouse spell, fuelled by the set-piece threat of Fin Byrnes. Hudd clipped the bar, Rich Thwaite was denied by Wright, and another Hudd header went over as Wood clung on.

Then, against the run of play, Shortwood levelled on 35 minutes. Ethan Royer surged down the right before feeding Elliot Martin, whose low cross was tucked away by Benji Cronin at the back post.

The second half failed to match the first, with chances at a premium. Elliot King blazed over after pouncing on a loose touch, while Wright made the save of the match in stoppage time, tipping over a fierce Lewis Bainbridge drive. From the resulting corner, Tiger Harris headed over as Stonehouse pushed for a winner.

Both sides ultimately settled for a point, leaving Shortwood still on one early-season victory, but content enough to keep their rivals in check.

Shortwood: Wright, Royer, King T (Pryce), King E, Tryner, Colliver, Cronin (Muhid), Kent, Bradshaw, Martin (Cooke), Gardner (Williams).
