Stroud streets were awash with red this past weekend as the annual Cycling Santa Claus Ride pedalled through town, spreading Christmas cheer and seasonal fun.
The event, which began in 2006 with just four riders.
This year’s ride saw a mix of veteran Santas and newcomers take to two wheels, cycling through the town centre and stopping at a selection of Stroud’s pubs. Laughter, jingling bells, and festive outfits.

“I can’t get over how much fun it is to see everyone enjoying themselves,” said one of the organisers. “We’ve got a mix of ages, abilities, and cycling experience, but everyone’s here to have a good time and share a bit of Christmas spirit.”
The ride concluded at the Retreat, a traditional favourite, with riders raising a toast to another successful year. “It’s wonderful to see the tradition continuing,” added the organiser. “Some things never change: good company, a few pints, and a lot of laughs.”
Over the past 19 years, the Cycling Santa Claus Ride has evolved in distance, route, and participation, but its mission remains the same: to bring festive cheer to Stroud and its local pubs. With the 20th anniversary coming up next year, organisers are already planning a special celebration to mark two decades of Santa on wheels.
“The ride is about more than cycling,” said a participant. “It’s about community, laughter, and a shared love of Christmas and that’s what makes it so special.”
