In a dazzling display of grit, talent and teamwork, the Minchinhampton Pony Club has galloped into the spotlight at this year’s Pony Club National Championships, proving that size is no barrier to success.

Competing against hundreds of teams from across the UK, this small Gloucestershire-based club delivered a string of remarkable performances.

The week kicked off with a strong showing from Jasper Skelton, who tackled the demanding Tetrathlon, a four-discipline event combining shooting, running, swimming and cross-country riding. Jasper’s impressive 12th place finish set the tone for what would become a championship to remember. His sister, Isla Skelton, also made her mark by running her horse in the 1m Eventing class, placing 6th (HC) and adding another proud moment for the Skelton family.

Next came the nailbiting 90cm Showjumping Team Final, where Minchinhampton’s riders soared to victory and became National Champions in a class of over 260 finalists. After a tense jump-off, the team clinched first place, showcasing not only technical skill but nerves of steel under pressure. The winning team was made up of Liv Amey, impressively riding two horses, not at the same time! Maisie Helm and Katie Finch.  Supporting the team was Alice Fields, who stepped up as a super groom. Though she was originally meant to compete with the team, an unfortunate injury to her horse meant she couldn’t ride but her presence was invaluable to their success, especially during the qualifying rounds in June.

The club’s success didn’t stop there. Evie Hall delivered a masterclass in dressage, sweeping the Open Dressage class with a win and securing top placements across multiple categories: 5th in Dressage to Music, 8th in Pairs Dressage to Music and 4th in Elite Dressage.

None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support, guidance and leadership of District Commissioner Julie Crew and Instructor and Coach Helena Sherwood, whose presence was invaluable throughout the championship. Helena’s calm reassurance and expert coaching helped settle nerves and elevate performances, while Julie’s dedication and direction have been the backbone of the club’s continued success.

These achievements are a testament to the dedication, perseverance and passion of the riders, their families and the incredible horses who carried them through each challenge with grace and power.

Minchinhampton Pony Club may be small, but this week they proved they are mighty in spirit and talent. Their success at the National Championships is not just a victory, it’s an inspiration!
