Southam 2 Shortwood 2 – UHL Hellenic League

Shortwood made the long trek to Southam and came back with a point thanks to an added time equaliser from Luke Soule, writes Jim Cunneen.

Captain Joe Tryner shaded the man of the match award and had a major part to play in the late leveller, but Alex Freeman was just behind him with some outstanding saves.

Wood lost Nathan Marks at the break with a strain and Shay Lyons replaced him but Wood had a different outlook in the second half and were far more assertive and positive.  After 56 minutes keeper Hudson dropped a cross and Lyons looked certain to score with his resultant shot but somehow Stewart managed to clear the ball off the line. A minute later Bowes was fouled 20 yards out and Nathan Payne hit a low free-kick into the bottom corner to give Wood the lead.

The lead was short-lived however as Southam swept up the other end for Osbourne to shoot low across Freeman into the bottom corner.

Southam thought they scored the winner with 3 minutes to go, but with 90+3 on the clock Tryner headed the ball perfectly into the path of Soule and the Wood man wasted no time slamming the ball past Hudson.

Shortwood Reserves lost 3-1 to second placeFeckenham, Ethan Royer scoring for the Wood.

Shortwood:  Freeman, Marks K (Eakers 76), Barrett, Byrnes, Tryner, Marks N (Lyons 45), Payne, Tosdevine (Pepa 81), Soule, Harper – Emerson, Bowes (Earle 62)

Star man: Joe Tryner
