The Festival of Wonder, Nov 17th-19th, begins with an exhilarating Gala Evening this coming Friday, November 17th at 7pm.
This special ticketed event features the grand opening of Magnificat! an amazing circus spectacular plus the outrageous toe-tapping comedy folk sound of Folk On.
Andy Bewley, Associate Director of Giffords Circus and Writer & Director of the Festival’s centrepiece circus performance, Magnificat!, says: “We are thrilled to have a number of very exciting and unique acts in this years’ exploration of the magic of wonder.
“Artists include Svetlana Goncharenko, an amazing sand artist, flying in from Cyprus to share an extraordinary act so rarely seen in this country, and circus legend Gordon Marquez, seen at Giffords in 2022 and one of the world’s great jugglers with such a thrilling and daring act.
“We also have the European champions of Acrobatic Gymnastics performing.”
Phil Coysh, Festival Director, says: “This is a show that brings together people of faith and no faith to appreciate a common and universal love, welcoming all into the conversation and the community.”
This uplifting and hilarious evening offers a glass of fizz on arrival, a chance to meet the director and cast, and the only opportunity for guaranteed seating of Magnificat! There will be a bar and an exclusive performance by summer festival favourites Folk On.
As a comedy folk band, Folk On write and play songs of unity and belonging, of solving conflicts and unyielding love – with the occasional tune about hopeless love lives, dead horses or Morris dancers! Folk On’s sound is honest and pure, with tight rural harmonies and melodies as sweet as the village fete jam. Their tales of rural life always bring a smile to the face, a laugh-filled tear to the eye and a desire to join in.
As one of the few ticketed performances offering guaranteed seating of the Festival, this amazing Gala Evening also supports the fundraising needs of the Festival thus supporting the free events offered throughout the weekend. Tickets, priced just £20, are limited for this guaranteed seating event and are selling fast. They are available from festivalofwonder.org or can be purchased locally in Stroud from The Door and Made in Stroud.
