Stonehouse Town surged into the play-off places with a 2-1 win at Chipping Sodbury, extending their winning run to six matches.
In their final fixture of the year, goals from Alex Kibble and the in-form Harley Hudd sealed victory for the Magpies, lifting them up to fourth in the table.
The Magpie raced into a 2-0 lead in the first half before Kyle Head scored for the Sods on the cusp of the break.
The result continues an impressive run of form for Stonehouse, who have now suffered just one defeat in their last 14 games and have firmly laid down a marker heading into the new year.
Despite the momentum, manager Adam Coyle believes his side still have room to improve. Speaking to the Stroud Times, he said: “We can certainly play much better than we did today. We skipped training last week due to the Christmas break and we just looked a tad flat-footed at times and didn’t have that intensity to our game, which we’ve had the last couple of months.”
Coyle was pleased with his team’s control of the match, however, and praised their composure.
“The game management and control was very good, with two excellent goals. An unfortunate mistake from Clarky (Adam Clarke) denied us the clean sheet, but he had a very good game and made key saves for us.”
Stonehouse return to action on Friday, January 2, when they travel to Brimscombe for a 7.45pm kick-off.
