Stroud Bowls Club bids farewell after 88 years – future of Green to be shaped by community

After 88 years of friendly competition and camaraderie, Stroud Bowls Club will close at the end of this season. The club, based at Stratford Park since 1936, has been a proud member of the South Cotswold League and a much-loved part of local life.

While the closure marks the end of an era, Stroud District Council is looking ahead. As part of its Leisure Services Development Plan, the council will seek community views on the future of the bowling green, ensuring it continues to be a space that promotes health, wellbeing, and togetherness.

A council spokesperson said: “We were saddened to hear of the closure of Stroud Bowls Club. The bowling green will be part of our plans, and community engagement will be central to deciding what comes next.”

Residents will have the opportunity to help shape the future of this historic site, keeping the spirit of sport and community alive in Stratford Park.
