Stroud Boxing Club has been named the first monthly recipient of the Stroud Times Community Champions award, following a strong wave of public nominations.

Based at Merretts Mill Industrial Estate in Woodchester and opened in 2024, the Community Interest Company is run by Tyrone McFarlane and Daisy Grunfeld. The club is known for its inclusive approach, welcoming members aged from 10 up to 75, and offering a wide range of classes that focus on fitness, confidence, and wellbeing.

One of its standout initiatives is a weekly boxing-based session for people living with Parkinson’s disease, combining adapted training drills with humour, encouragement and community support—helping participants improve both physically and emotionally.

Owner Tyrone McFarlane said the recognition came as a surprise: “It definitely took us by surprise and we are so grateful. We’re incredibly grateful to receive this award. It means so much to be recognised by our local community. Thank you to everyone who supports us, it truly makes what we do worthwhile.”

Stroud Times editor Ash Loveridge praised the club’s impact, saying the awards aim to highlight individuals and organisations making a real difference in the community: “We believe there are extraordinary people in our community whose efforts often go unnoticed, and these awards are our way of saying thank you.”
