Stroud Hockey Club is counting the cost after their home ground at Stratford Park was broken into.

Head coach Rob Fynn discovered the break-in on Sunday at their base behind Stratford Park Leisure Centre.

He said: “The club storage compound has been sprayed with graffiti and the gate lock was smashed and the fence pulled back. I’ve collected six bags of rubbish that consisted of broken bottles, empty alcohol cans, food wrappers, and had to clear glass off the pitch.”

Stroud Hockey Club boasts more than 10 teams from senior to youth level. Former England goalkeeper Simon Mason cut his hockey teeth at the club.

The club are set to resume hockey next month.
