Stroud’s McDonald’s, owned and operated by franchisee Paul Toner, recently hosted a fun-filled and educational family event to raise awareness around sustainability and keeping the local community litter-free.
Local families were warmly welcomed by Councillor Gill Thomas, who opened the day with eco-friendly books and interactive activities for children, including environment-themed word searches, face painting, and a mini litter pick. A special litter picking station outside the restaurant encouraged hands-on involvement, reinforcing the event’s core environmental message.
The event, held from 11am to 2pm, drew in community members including the Cashes Green Youth FC coach and local Police Community Support Officers, with plans already in place for future litter-picking initiatives in September. A poster competition gave young attendees the opportunity to express their creativity while promoting sustainability.

Franchisee Mr Toner, who operates eight McDonald’s restaurants across Gloucestershire, commented: “Our community is incredibly important to us – being good neighbours is central to our values… This was a wonderful opportunity to educate children on the importance of our environment, and we’re already planning to bring this event to our Hardwicke restaurant soon.”

This event aligns with McDonald’s longstanding commitment to litter reduction and environmental responsibility. For over 35 years, McDonald’s crew members have patrolled local areas, collecting litter along 5,000 miles each week.
Since 2015, the brand has installed 1,100+ recycling units across the UK and converts used cooking oil into biodiesel, helping fuel over half its delivery fleet.
