Stroud Rugby has demonstrated its commitment to community well-being by raising £722 for Sunflowers Suicide Support at a race night.
The funds will support the charity’s vital work with those bereaved by suicide in Gloucestershire and highlight the positive role sports clubs play in promoting men’s mental health.
Sunflowers Suicide Support provides crucial services, offering a compassionate space for individuals and families grappling with the loss of a loved one to suicide. The charity’s work includes:
- Support: Offering a safe and understanding environment for those affected.
- Training: Actively engaging with communities to raise awareness and provide education about suicide and its impact.
- Outreach: Delivering essential training in suicide intervention, grief, and bereavement.
Abbie Warren, Sunflowers CEO and founder said: “These funds will directly help us continue providing our vital services. It’s heartening to see a local sports club recognize the importance of mental health and take action.”
The race night, organised by Victoria Millross Stroud Rugby’s Bar Manager, also highlighted the positive impact of rugby on men’s mental health. Rugby clubs often provide a strong sense of community, camaraderie, and belonging, which can be crucial in combating social isolation. The physical activity involved in rugby also has positive effects on mental well-being, reducing stress and improving mood.
“This event reflects our commitment to supporting our community and promoting open conversations about mental health,” said Tim Marshfield, Vice Chairman of Stroud Rugby.
