A key street in Stroud has reopened following an incident on Russell Street on Thursday evening.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of a fire near the popular Lord John (Wetherspoons) pub.

One witness told Stroud Times: “I had just got off the train from Swindon and noticed smoke billowing skywards. I believe the fire broke out in a flat above the pub.

“The situation has since been resolved, and the area has returned to normal, with people seen out enjoying the evening.”
