The iconic Five Valleys Walk returns this Sunday, 28th September, organised by local charity Meningitis Now.
Step into your walking boots, gather family, friends, and dogs, and join thousands of others exploring the beautiful Stroud valleys. You can sign up now or on the day, and choose a distance that suits you between any of the eight checkpoints. A free bus service will take you back to your starting point.
Community Ambassador Alison Walker has been manning a Five Valleys Walk checkpoint for seventeen years. She tragically lost her daughter, Hannah, to meningitis in 2003, when Hannah was just eight months old. Alison holds special memories of the Five Valleys Walk, often attending with her other children over the years: “I have Hannah’s teddy bear at home, with the badges we used to receive for completing the whole walk, proudly recording our early achievements. I also recently found clippings in a memory box of the 2012 Stroud Life article titled, ‘Girls walk in sister’s memory’, along with two worn maps recording years completing the 21 miles. This sums up much of the FVW for me—crumpled, tatty maps are the most important mementos, and getting those little stickers is more valuable than gold on the day!”
The Five Valleys Walk is organised by Meningitis Now, and all donations and sponsorship money raised go toward providing emotional, practical, and financial support for everyone in the UK affected by meningitis. The lead sponsor for the event is Renishaw.
