A book charting the history of Stroud’s iconic hotel is out now.
Now known as the Stroud Hotel, the book features stories behind the popular Imperial Hotel.
Pauline Stevens, secretary of the Stroud Local History Society said: “In 1876 it was suggested that the Imperial Hotel should be renamed. It wasn’t – until last year and has reopened as the Stroud Hotel. New research has uncovered stories of its architect, owners, managers and how it was extended.”
The book also shows photos of the buildings that once stood in Station Road and Cheapside car park.
Pauline added: “You can read the dramatic tales of the two houses that were replaced by Stroud House. Sorrento and Fireside Bookshop also feature as do cattle fairs in Russell Street, engineering in Castle Street and pin manufacturing.”
Costing £12, the book is available from Shambles Indoor market, R&R Books, Stroud Bookshop, Fireside Books
