Students celebrate ‘exceptional’ GCSE results

Students at Sir William Romney’s School (SWR) in Tetbury are celebrating an exceptional set of GCSE results. Like all students across the country, the Class of 2025 faced significant disruption to their education during the pandemic, yet they showed remarkable resilience and determination, achieving excellent outcomes across a wide range of subjects.

Headteacher Will Ruscoe praised the students for their attitude and commitment: “This has been an outstanding cohort of students at Sir William Romney’s School. Their superb results reflect five years of hard work and perseverance. We are immensely proud of their achievements and will miss them greatly, but we look forward to following their future successes at post-16 and beyond.”

Overall attainment has risen again this year, with further improvements in the number of students achieving strong passes in English and maths, as well as in several other subjects — a testament to the dedication of both staff and students. Mr Ruscoe added: “I would like to congratulate every student and thank our staff, The Athelstan Trust, and all parents and carers for the commitment, encouragement and partnership that has made this possible. At SWR we value the achievements of every student, whatever their results, and we are proud of the contribution each of them has made to our school community.”

SWR continues to build on strong foundations, following an excellent Ofsted inspection in February 2025 which confirmed that the school maintains high academic and pastoral standards. Inspectors commended the school’s ethos of Striving for Excellence Together and its positive impact on both achievement and wellbeing.
